Undoubtedly one of the most recognizable and elegant coffee makers available. The Chemex was designed in 1941 and has been making delicious coffee ever since. Its non-porous, heat-resistant glass construction, combined with proprietary, scientifically designed filters, produces coffee with clarity and complexity. In fact, it's the filters that are the star of the Chemex show.
They are 20-30% heavier than other filters and remove even the finest sediment particles. The design of the filter facilitates the proper infusion time by regulating the filtration rate - about a 4 minute brew. One warning: As the filters are made of heavy paper, they require a full rinse with hot water. before brewing. to remove any paper taste. It's worth noting that there are also other filter options for the Chemex.
Since the Chemex is made out of glass, you can see the coffee as it brews and, as it's a pour over method, you can also customize your particular brew method very easily. It comes with a polished wood collar and leather tie: the collar serving as an insulated handle around the middle of the coffeemaker.
The Chemex is so cool that it has a permanent display in the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and is how James Bond makes his coffee. What other endorsements do you need?

If you are used to making a pot of coffee even when you want just a cup, then this great little brewer may well be your saviour. Arguably the most popular manual brew method over the past decade, the Hario V60-02 is a newer twist on the classic Melitta cones. There are as many opinions on brew method as there are baristas but, once you have found your favourite, this is one of cheapest and most effective ways to make great coffee at home.
This method, paired with the appropriate filters, is ideal for making single cups of coffee directly into the mug - you can make up to 16oz in one brew - and ensures that you only make the coffee that you need. It's simple to use, easy to clean and, as long as you have good coffee, may make you put your coffee machine away for good.
This Hario V60 is red plastic (BPA-free and shatter resistant), but it is also available in ceramic (prettier and better at retaining heat). Whichever you choose, your days of old, microwaved coffee could be over.
$34.99
Hario has never really been known for making beautiful products. Functional yes, but not beautiful. The V60 drip decanter is definitely functional - the combination of a glass decanter and a v60 brewer is exactly that - but it is also starting to look pretty damn good, in a more contemporary way. Unlike the Chemex, where the paper sits directly on to the glass of the decanter, this little beauty has a suspended basket that hangs on the rim and snuggly fits into the decanter. On the coffee front, the filter goes into the basket, you wash though the filter, and the coffee goes in as usual. Also unlike the Chemex, you do not have a channel to pour out the filter pre-wet water, you simply lift the basket out, dispose of the water and put it back in place. As it's a stylish little brewer, it comes with a silicone band that wraps around it's waist, not unlike a couture belt, to accentuate its curves and allow you to pick it up without achieving first degree burns.
