Winnipeg’s First Bicycle Cafe
Uniting Winnipeg's coffee and cycling communities to offer you the best experience around! The Yellow Derny Cafe is conveniently located inside Woodcock Cycle Works in Old St. Vital, Winnipeg, MB.
Come to the table out front and we will come out to serve you.
Our fearless leader Tim Woodcock wanted to share his passion for coffee with the local cycling community. On his travels around the world, Tim noticed the often close relationship between cyclists and coffee, especially in Europe. These cyclists would always start and end their weekly tours at their local cafe.
Inspired by this blend of coffee and cycling culture, Tim returned home with the aim of bringing this community aspect of cycling, which is more than actually being on the bike. Opening the Yellow Derny Cafe was about continuing the ethos that brought the rest of our shop to life.
A Derny is a motorized bicycle for motor-paced cycling events such as during six-day and Keirin racing and motor-paced road races. Some riders train behind a derny on the road. The Derny is so-called as it was originally produced by the French Derny firm, but the name Derny is now applied to all small cycle-pacing vehicles, regardless of manufacturer.
We source only coffee that we love from producers who are truly making great coffees.
